CENTER FOR THE DIGITAL ARTS YOUTH ARTS TECHNOLOGY PROGRAM ONLINE
During Summer 2020, the Center for the Digital Arts, Peekskill Extension of Westchester Community College will be offering another Youth Arts Technology Program. For the first time ever, this program will be offered virtually utilizing Zoom due to the pandemic response. This provides us with an opportunity to offer our students with distance learning methodologies with arts technology. Students will have access to technical support throughout the program.
The program has been transformed into a STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Mathematics) art technology curriculum and focuses on engaging youth to problem-solve, collaborate, and create. These courses focus on the hybridization of art and science and develops critical creative thinking. Sessions run Monday through Thursday, July 6 to July 30, 2020 in two-week intervals.
This program is where art supported by technology provides students with 21st century literacies and skills. Some students will create stories with 2 and 3D animation; some will learn how to code and control robots; while others will learn to create games. These courses are designed to spark the imagination and cultivate critical thinking skills that will serve students well as they move forward in this millennium. They have the opportunity to work collaboratively, express themselves as makers, and combine manual and digital skills to actualize a take-away portfolio project.
The Center’s dedicated team misses having your children at the Peekskill Extension. However, please know that we are still here for you. Our teachers are the very best artists and designers and are very excited about teaching virtually this summer. We are looking forward to supporting you and your children learn, create, and grow with us too!
For more information and class offerings, please visit sunywcc.edu/youth or contact [email protected] and a staff member will respond to you shortly.
